FISH stands for Friends in Service Here. FISH is a nonprofit, all-volunteer organization, incorporated in the state of Connecticut, dedicated to helping Sherman residents in need of local area transportation. We are a group of about 55 Sherman neighbors who wish to express our caring and concern by helping Sherman residents to get to their needed appointments. We have been doing this since 1971 by providing certain non-professional services such as:
Transportation to medical, dental, legal, and related essential appointments
Prescription delivery
Loan of home health care equipment, e.g., walkers, wheelchairs, etc.
We accept no payment for services from our clients, but contributions are always welcome.

Anyone who is properly trained by our training coordinator may become a member of FISH. There are two forms of service in FISH: drivers and ride coordinators.
Our drivers are on call one day a month to drive our "clients" to appointments within our immediate area: Kent, Bridgewater, New Milford, Brookfield, Danbury, Newtown, and New Fairfield. We also keep a list of Reserve Drivers who may accept random assignments on days when the scheduled driver is already committed.
Our ride coordinators are assigned one day per month to arrange rides over the phone, coordinating between our answering service, the client, and the driver on duty that day. Ride coordinators may serve from any location reachable by phone.
2016-2017 Activity
Drives Last year (October 1, 2016 through September 30, 2017), we received 173 calls and drove a total of 5,898.5 miles. We served 23 residents who needed our services and who would likely not be able to remain in town if it were not for our special volunteer group.
We get calls for service almost every day and in our busiest months this year (January and June), we had 20 rides. We average one ride a day, but it is not uncommon for us to depend on reserve drivers as we have had up to 4 requests on a specific day this past year.
Equipment Loans We loaned out 32 pieces of equipment (wheelchairs, walkers, commodes, bath seats, shower chairs, etc.) to 19 different clients.
